The name Sherouse Plastering has been synonymous with great quality and service in residential construction for three generations. Now Leonard Sherouse, Jr., 49, is taking that great reputation for quality and service and expanding it to include commercial work.

While there have been some changes along the way, Sherouse Plastering Inc. has primarily provided drywall, metal framing, hard coat, synthetic, EIFS systems and stucco finishing to the building industry since 1935, when Guy Wesley Sherouse, Sr. moved here from Tennessee. When he retired, brothers, G.W. and Leonard, Sr. took over the business.

After G.W. Sherouse retired, Leonard, Sr. continued to operate the business until the end of 1999.

“My dad went on vacation for Thanksgiving, and never really came back to running the business,” said Sherouse. “It’s been my responsibility since then, although my dad is still involved.”

With nearly 75 years behind it, Sherouse Plastering is thinking about the future. Sherouse’s younger brother, David, and his son, Heith, are working with the company and are ready to take over when the time comes. Right now David is running the inside operation, and Heith is supervising in the field. Also, invaluable to the team is Paul Crepeau, the outside operations manager.

There is a fifth generation, Heith’s son, Wesley, who will turn three in a few months. David has two sons as well – Dillon, 10 and Carson, 2. But whether they will join the business remains to be seen.

“They both say they don’t want their sons to do this,” said Sherouse. “I said the same thing years ago – that my son wasn’t going to do this. In this family though, you learn the trade. Then we will see what happens.”

Being family-owned and having a long history in the community is only part of what makes Sherouse Plastering an expert in its field.
